Create a Strong Impression On the path to a board seat, your pitch – how you present yourself and the value you bring to a board, company or committee role – is critical to creating a strong and lasting impression. Whether talking to a board member, recruiter or just networking, every Athena member should be able to deliver a targeted pitch to these different audiences. This Salon will help members practice doing so – naturally, confidently, succinctly. Join Senior Athena Coaches Nancy Sheppard, Nan Crawford, and fellow Athena members to workshop and practice your pitches together. You’ll work in small groups, and receive the support and feedback you need to polish your delivery.

Nancy Sheppard Board Journey Coach

Nancy joined the Leadership Team of The Athena Alliance in February 2017. She founded Women2Boards in 2014 to assist women leaders on their path to a corporate boardroom. Her challenges and achievements in working in male-dominated environments inspires her passion to assist more women succeed in business and breakthrough the boardroom ceiling. Her past board and executive experience includes 20+ years as CEO and director, Western Independent Bankers, a founding board member for a bank services corporation, and a trustee for a workers’ self-insurance group. She was a member of the leadership team at the California Bankers Association and spent several years in Washington D.C.as legislative assistant on Capitol Hill. She was selected as one of the Most Influential Women in Business by the San Francisco Business Times. Because of her leadership in the board diversity movement, she was asked to chair the 2020 Women on Boards San Francisco, National Discussion on Board Diversity for the past two years. She is a member of the Women’s Leadership Council of the Renaissance Entrepreneur Center which assists low-income women start and grow their own businesses. Nancy's role is Chief Board Journey Advisor for Aspiring Directors. She contributes to the communications strategy to accomplish the mission of accelerating boardroom gender diversity.

Nan has coached clients to write and deliver powerful presentations for boards of directors, major conferences, funding pitches that have raised millions of dollars, TED, The Clinton Global Initiative, The State Department, The White House and The Colbert Report. Nan Crawford delivers dynamic keynote presentations that help individuals and organizations thrive. As a keynote presenter, Nan has shared the stage with Dan Pink, David Allen,Robert Reich, Bill Strickland, Steve Ballmer, Lisa Ling and Anna Deveare Smith. For over 20 years Nan has coached executives and conducted leadership development programs for organizations such as American Express, Boeing, eBay, Deloitte, Google, KPMG, Office Depot, Oracle, Paramount Pictures, PayPal, Target and USAA. She has served on the Executive Education Faculty for Columbia, Harvard, Duke and UC Berkeley's Graduate Schools of Business. Nan Crawford has been featured in Fast Company magazine and The New York Times calls her work “inspirational”. Nan was the Founder and Artistic Director of the San Francisco based improvisational ensemble Pacific Playback Theatre. She is a cum laude graduate of The University of Texas, with a B.F.A. in theatre, and holds an M.A. in Organization Development & Transformation from the California Institute of Integral Studies.
